The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC) is offering an employment opportunity for two high school students this summer! One position will be for a visual artist and the other for a documentarian. We are calling for high school students ages 14 and up. We are also accepting recent high school graduates who have not yet entered college.

The two youth employees will assist mural artist Maya Bauer, who is creating a mural inspired by surrounding prairies and featuring portraits of local activists. When collaborating with Maya, the visual artist will work with Maya on painting the mural, while the documentarian will take photos and/or videos of the process. Youth employees will also come away with an appreciation for how community arts organizations operate, hands-on experience with event planning, experience working in a collaborative environment, greater knowledge of the local community, and artistic work that can be added to their portfolios. These skills will be useful as they look to build their resumes, search for other jobs, and apply to college. We also hope their experiences working at the UCIMC will help them develop a life-long interest in community arts organizations and get involved - whether as a volunteer, community artist, board member, or future nonprofit director.

These positions are funded by the Illinois Arts Council.
